December 14th 2007 - Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets claimed 5 of 6 possible points in 3 games played for the week of 12/10 and improved to 13-5-3-1. The Komets are the first IHL team to reach 30 points this season and hold first place for the second consecutive week going into week 10 of the 2007-08 campaign. Friday 12/14 the Komets clipped the IceHawks in Port Huron 4-3 on goals by Colin Chaulk (C), Mathieu Curadeau (C), Guy Dupuis (D) and David Hukalo (RW). Nick Boucher earned the win in the Komet nets stopping 26 of 29 shots. Saturday the Komets rallied from a 4 goal deficit to knot the game at 4 at the end of regulation only to fall in overtime to the visiting Muskegon Fury 5-4. Curadeau registered his first pro hat trick. Chaulk scored the game-tying tally for his sixth goal of the season. Komet goalie Kevin Reiter suffered his third overtime loss of the season making 19 saves on 24 Fury shots. Sunday the Komets rebounded with a 3-2 home win against the Bloomington PrairieThunder and extended their unbeaten streak to 5 games. Cureadeau, Mitch Woods (RW) and Hukalo hit the twine for the Komets. Boucher registered his third straight win on 14 saves. The Komets will skate 3 games in 3 nights again the weekend of 12/21 before they take a Christmas break. Friday the Kalamazoo Wings visit for an 8pm faceoff. It will be the 6th of 15 meetings this season. The Komets lead the series 4-0-1-0 winning the last 4 meetings. Kalamazoo will host Port Huron Wednesday before traveling to Fort Wayne Friday. Saturday the Komets skate at Muskegon at 7:30pm. Fort Wayne is 1-1-1-1 in 4 meetings this year against the Fury. Muskegon faces the Generals at Flint Friday before hosting the Komets Saturday. Sunday the Komets complete the 3-game weekend with a 3pm matinee at Port Huron. It will be the 8th of 15 meetings this season with the Komets leading the series 4-2-1-0. The IceHawks enter this week's play riding a 5-game losing skid. Port Huron visits Kalamazoo Wednesday, hosts Bloomington Friday and skates at Kalamazoo Saturday before hosting the Komets Sunday. Komet's Curadeau snags Rookie of the Week
Fort Wayne, IN --- The IHL announced Monday that Komet center Mathieu Curadeau was named the Aquafina Rookie of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007. It was the first weekly award of his career. Curadeau (KERR-uh-doe), 22, netted 5 goals and added an assist for 6 points in 3 games played and posted a plus/minus rating of +4. The Montreal, Quebec native scored the Komet's second goal of a 4-3 in Port Huron Friday night and added an assist on the game winner. The center registered his first pro hat trick Saturday night in the Komet's 5-4 overtime home loss to Muskegon. Curadeau scored 3 unanswered goals during a Komet comeback after a 4-0 deficit and helped carry the Komets into the extra frame. Curadeau scored his fourth first-goal of the season against the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder Sunday as the Komets clipped the Thunder 3-2 and extended Fort Wayne's unbeaten streak to 5 games. Curadeau's goal extends his goal-scoring streak to an IHL current high of 4 games (6 goals). He also is riding a 4-game point streak of 7 points (6 goals, 1 assist). Curadeau leads IHL rookies and the Komets with 14 goals and a +13. He has dished 5 assists for 19 points. The skater also has a team best +13 after appearing in all 22 games to date.
